Webster (1913) Definition: God"wit, n. [Prob. from AS. g?d good + wiht creature,
wight.] (Zo["o]l.)
One of several species of long-billed, wading birds of the
genus Limosa, and family Tringid[ae]. The European
black-tailed godwit (Limosa limosa), the American marbled
godwit (L. fedoa), the Hudsonian godwit ({L.
h[ae]mastica}), and others, are valued as game birds. Called
also godwin.
