One of several species of sea birds, of the family
procellariid[ae], allied to the albatrosses and petrels.
Among the well-known species are the arctic fulmar ({Fulmarus
glacialis}) (called also fulmar petrel, malduck, and
mollemock), and the giant fulmar (Ossifraga gigantea).
